InYoung Kim, MD, PhD
InYoung Kim, MD, PhD is finishing up her final year of residency at Case Western University/University Hospitals in Cleveland. Improving patients’ lives with dermatologic conditions through innovative therapies is where passion meets purpose for Dr. Kim. She completed her BA and MD at the University of Chicago, where she also received a PhD in Immunology focusing on the gastrointestinal immune system. She believes that gut health is closely linked to skin health and is particularly interested in the role of diet (including oral supplements), lifestyle modifications, and integrative approaches to dermatologic conditions. Her other interest is using new technology to improve patient care. As an AID scholar, she hopes to improve skin cancer treatment by using a fluorescent “smart probe” to detect tumor margins during skin cancer excisions in real-time. She envisions that this will be particularly valuable in rural/non-metropolitan areas or the VA system where Mohs surgery may be less readily accessible. Finally, she loves medical journalism and is an editorial contributor for www.practiceupdate.com/dermatology (Elsevier) and www.nextstepsinderm.com, delivering practice-changing content to practicing dermatologists across the globe.
